Inspired by the growing “gindustry” overseas, the Reid family opened Reid’s Distillery in Toronto as a way to bring handcrafted, world-class gin to the city. We decided to beat the summer heat with three Canadian-inspired cocktails using Reid’s signature gin, along with local ingredients such as blueberries, elderberries, and cattail hearts from Forbes Wild Foods Inc.
Elderflower Gin & Tonic
Ingredients:
1.5-2 oz Reid’s Gin
2 oz Fever Tree tonic water
1 oz cold brew elderflower tea
Elderberries for garnish
Ice
Directions:
Place Elderberries in a highball glass and muddle. Add ice, pour gin, and top with Fever Tree tonic water.

Cat Tail Martini
Ingredients:
2 oz Reid’s Gin
¼ oz dry vermouth
1 pickled cattail heart, unrolled with knife (from Forbes Wild Foods Inc.)
1 oz pickled cattail brine
Ice
Directions:
Pour gin, vermouth, and pickled cattail brine into a mixing glass. Add ice and stir. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with an unrolled picked cattail heart.

Earl Grey Blueberry Sparkler
Ingredients:
1 oz Reid’s Gin
¾ blueberry liquor
¼ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
¼ earl grey simple syrup
2 oz sparkling wine (chilled)
Wild blueberries
Ice
Directions:
Pour gin, blueberry liqueur, lemon juice and earl grey simple syrup into a shaker. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a coupe glass. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with blueberries.
Earl Grey Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 bag of earl grey tea
Directions:
1. Add sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
2. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
3. Let cool to 70°F/21°C then pour into a mason jar with the tea bag. Leave over night.
4. Remove tea bag. Keeps refrigerated for 30 days. |
